Tell me about it! For years I used the thermos method, which was outlined in Halliday & Resnick's Physics textbook. Basically, you put tapwater into a thermos, and then shake it until it boils.
Now, when I say I did this for years, I mean years of trying to get the same damn water to boil. By the time I succeeded the egg had hatched and the chicken had shit all over my kitchen. Plus my arms were sore.
Next I was gonna try using the sparks from chewing wintergreen lifesavers, but someone told me about the pot method, and it seems to work.
