Operating Systems


VMS is like the Soviet Railroad. It's cumbersome and clunky, and if you look carefully you might see that it wasn't put together as well as it could have been. But it's robust and can always be depended upon to get you where you're going eventually.

UNIX is like the ferryboat system in most third world countries. It'll usually get you where you want to go, but thousands drown every year while using it and still there are thousands more clamoring to get on board.

Mac OS is like the monorail at Disneyland. It's fast and slick, and the kids like it. But it really doesn't take you much of anywhere.
